meet hitch
Hitch was more than just a horse—he was a cherished member of our 13 Hands family. His journey to us was one for the books; Hitch “hitched” a ride with a group of horses we rescued. Upon tracing his origins, we discovered he had been left behind at a farm and we made arrangements so he could stay with us. It became clear he needed us. From the moment he arrived, we knew he belonged here, and he quickly became a standout member of our barn. Exceptionally social and friendly, Hitch roamed freely, delighting visitors and staff with his warm and welcoming demeanor.
When Hitch first arrived, he was in his early 30s—a remarkable age for a horse. In the winter of 2025, Hitch experienced a life-threatening fall, requiring an extraordinary emergency response from the local fire department and the unwavering support of local businesses, friends, and family who rallied to help him stand again. Unfortunately, the incident, compounded by neurological challenges due to his age, took a toll on Hitch. Despite immediate veterinary care and the incredible generosity of our community, we made the heart-wrenching decision to humanely say goodbye, prioritizing his quality of life.
