Arnie needs time for rest and relaxation.
He is on a feeding protocol to help him gain weight, and he experiences various human interactions to help his emotional healing. This thin and frail gelding has started to trust his human caretakers which will help his rehab process and finding his forever home.
October 2021Cappuccino was born on October 23, 2021 to Mocha Latte, a Belgian Draft. Cappy is growing by the minute. He’s all legs!
He loves to be scratched on the head and his neck, and he is quite comfortable around people. We are so excited to watch him grow and play with his pasture mate, Splash.
This beautiful paint is still healing from trauma and trust issues. She is a companion horse only. She needs a special home who will love her and make her feel safe.
Once you have his attention, you better be ready to spend some time with Buddy. He has a hard time letting you go once the love starts. We are evaluating him at this time and giving him time to put on weight. Stay tuned for his transformation.
May 2022
Pride needs time to rehab physically. He is clearly in need of food and TLC. Stay tuned for progress updates.
May 2022
Rocky is not trusting yet, and he keeps his distance. He needs more time to get comfortable around people, but we are confident that he will come around. In the meantime, he will be busy putting on weight and enjoying his days with his pasture mates.

Tabitha is quite nervous. It could be in part because of blindness in her left eye. It looks like she may have sustained an injury that resulted in vision loss. We don’t know her past, but we’re ready to tell her future.
The following horses are all available for adoption. They have had their shots and completed quarantine as necessary. Your adoption donation helps us to save and care for more horses. Fees range from around $1,000 for a mini to $2,000 for a horse.
You must submit an application so we can begin to qualify you as an acceptable home.
Zaynah is an Arabian mare and the matriarch of the ladies. She is estimated to be 27 years old. Zaynah was rescued emaciated with a damaged and infected left eye. Unfortunately, her eye had to be removed while in quarantine. She was also pregnant but too thin for anyone to notice due to her malnourishment. She gave birth to a beautiful and healthy colt named Shiloh. Zaynah loves to be groomed and take walks.
Luna, another grand lady, is estimated to be between 20- to 25 years old. She has dealt with dental issues and had some teeth removed about 2 years ago. She is the alpha of the group so no one messes with her. She is not agressive but clearly the others know their place in the herd. She is bonded with Harley.
Harley, a Saddlebred mare estimated to be around 20 years old, is fondly referred to as a ballerina. Her slender physique and long legs make her look like a dancer. She is the most challenging in the group to get close to, but if you get close to Luna, Harley is easy to catch. It is clear when she and Luna are apart that they look for each other and call out.
Guinevere, a Morgan mare born in 2007 (15 years old), has experienced challenges since she was born. She was born blind and at 6 months old sent for surgery for lens replacement, only to lose her left eye in recovery. She has always seen her world through one eye and now has no vision in her right eye except for lights and shadows. She navigates her space quite well and relies on her pasture mates. Guinevere cannot be stalled. She needs to live outside with access to shelter. Her dental and farrier care require a sedative to relax her and she has done very well taking that extra step for us to work with her.

This older sweet boy will spend the next few months resting and gaining weight. He will also get some extra TLC to get him settled and adjusted to a relaxing horse life. NO more strenuous jobs or activities for Arizona.
Do you want to provide that special home where he can live out his years enjoying the companionship of his human family and the camaraderie of his equine friends?
Argentina is in need of someone special. She is quite nervous around people and it’s clear she has trust issues. We don’t know her ability yet, but she was likely worked too hard. She has a big scar on her left thigh. We will update Argentina’s page as soon as we have new information. ~ March 2021 ~
Bella can do some light riding every week. She is sweet and energetic. Come meet her and see if she’s a match.
We can’t believe it.
He’s grown to be quite handsome (just like his namesake). Cooper is loving life and frolicking in his paddock with his great pal Shiloh. He is halter broke but needs training. Are you looking to continue what we started by giving this young colt a happy and healthy life?
Cooper is one of two foals born spring of 2020. He was born on April 20, 2020 to Lady. The farm was bursting with excitement as we all waited for a second foal to arrive. He was born in the middle of the night and mom did a wonderful job bringing him into the world. Lady is a protective mother and Cooper knows where to hide (behind mom) when he’s unsure of all the humans peering in to catch a glimpse.
CoCo is still working on her trust issues. While she has successfully joined a herd and will come closer to humans, she is still in need of working closely with someone. CoCo will need training to work out her concerns with getting close to people. She has not been ridden during her time at 13 Hands, but she is sound.
Do you have room for CoCo and the patience to see her through this process of healing?
Dakota Red is a gentle, sweet and approachable Red Roan mare. She’s an adult Quarter Horse who would make someone very happy. You don’t know what you’re missing! Dakota would be a wonderful walking companion for her human. She loves to be groomed and likes to be around people. She is easy going and not easily spooked. Dakota is one of the kindest equine souls you will ever come by. To know her, is to understand her calming presence and her immediate connection with people.
Dante is part of the gentle giants we have grown to love. This draft mule is quiet and loving and enjoys being around people. Dante doesn’t like the farrier, so we’re working on that. He wears the scars of working hard over his years, but he is done working.
He would make an excellent companion. We don’t know yet if he can be ridden. We are giving him time to enjoy his life among the herd and interacting with his human caregivers.
Dutch is a Draft Cross who is curious and sweet. He’s a bit intimidating at first but as soon as he willingly approaches you, you can see how gentle and loving he is. We are not sure yet of the level of riding he can manage. He was saddled and ridden in a round pen and did very well.
This pretty mare is as gentle as she is sweet. She walks and leads nicely. We are not sure if she is rideable at this time.
Finn is a former Amish cart horse. He needs someone patient who will get him to trust people again. Not easy to approach, but he can certainly be for the right person who will work with him. He’s available as a companion horse.
Guinevere is doing well. She has put on weight and has settled into a small herd. Companionship was something that was missing for quite a few years and now she has it.
If you’re interested in adoption, Guinevere needs to live outside 24/7. She does not do well in a stall. She becomes very agitated and quite vocal. Guinevere needs to feel the open space around her. She only sees lights and shadows in her right eye (her left eye was removed at 6 months old). Guinevere is more comfortable around people now, and she welcomes the human touch. A good head scratch is always the way to go.
Guinevere’s story began early in her life. Born blind and with cataracts, she had surgery for lens replacement. Soon after the successful surgery, an injury to the left side of her face required the removal of her eye. At about 5 years old she was adopted by a family. Unfortunately, after so many years together, they were unable to care for her and they needed to find a home for their beloved horse. 13 Hands was able to help.
She has been ridden in the past, but we have not determined how she’s doing now under saddle.
Harley is quite stunning. “Elegant, like a ballerina, graceful” are all terms that have been used to describe her. She’s quite shy, a bit skittish but has calmed down since arriving here. Harley is in need of a good home and a second chance. She is looking for that one special person to bond with who can give her the time and patience she deserves so that she can excel! She’s a great “project horse” for an experienced rider. Has not been ridden and is best as a pasture mate. She is bonded with her pasture mate Luna. Harley does not like being stalled. She prefers to be outside 24/7.
Juliet has evolved since her time at our new home in Clinton Corners. She’s friendly and curious and no longer retreats when humans are near. She gets along with all the mares in the herd. Juliet needs a home where she can continue to enjoy the company of equines and bond with a human or two! She has not been ridden while at 13 Hands. She will need groundwork since she has not been worked or ridden in at least 2 years.
Lady has become more approachable since first arriving at 13 Hands in March 2020. She is now part of a large herd of mares since her foal, Bradley Cooper, was weaned.
Lady is still cautious, but she’s also curious now and wants to engage with people. She will need more groundwork to gain your trust. She leads nicely and wants to be with her human companions, but she requires some 1:1 time with that special person who will help her come out of her shell. She’s young, and we know the right home is out there waiting for her. You have to be willing to take on a project and know that the end reward will be for both human and horse.
When this beautiful mare was rescued, we were surprised to learn she was in foal. She arrived at 13 Hands within 6 weeks of giving birth and we were blessed with a little colt, Bradley Cooper, on April 20, 2020.
Lucky is a high energy gelding who would do well with a more experienced rider. He has a lot of go and would do very well with some ground work to get him used to being ridden regularly.
Luna, the striking Paint, is looking to be someone’s pasture pal. When she arrived, she needed some dental work done, but now she is doing very well. Come meet her and make her part of your family. Luna is bonded with her pasture mate, Harley.
Mocha is doing great. After spending the last 7 months with her foal Cappuccino, she is now ready for her next adventure. She is ready for her forever home with pasture mates she can grow old with and humans who will continue to show her care and love.
Mocha was sent to auction pregnant and thankfully was saved by 13 Hands. After arriving in July 2021, she took the next several months to gain some weight and gain strength. She’s a sweet mare and loves people. On October 23, 2021, her foal was born. Cappuccino was born healthy and strong.
May 2022
This beautiful gelding is easy to notice among the herd. His colors are dark and striking and he also a gentle boy. Navajo doesn’t look that tall from a distance, but up close, he’s a lot bigger. Navajo has a LH injury that’s healing nicely. We are not able to evaluate him at this time and are focused on his emotional well-being and helping him put on weight.
This sweet mare has been working all her life. She is now enjoying the quiet of her green pasture and her friends. Jewel is curious and loves to be caressed once she warms up to you. Light riding or companion only.
Ryder is looking for that special someone. He’s friendly and loves attention from his human care givers. He leads well, has done well under saddle and is sound. Ryder has a lot of go, so a more experienced rider would be the best fit.
December 2021: Ryder will need more training to evaluate his level of riding. Also, his inconsistent behaviors with riders and his refusals need more attention.
Shiloh was our Christmas miracle. Born on 12/12/2018 after his mother, Zaynah, was saved at auction. Mom was emaciated and had a terrible eye infection. When the vet came to remove mom’s eye, they discovered she was 8 months pregnant! Amazingly, a healthy foal was born. Mother and baby are doing great.
Shiloh is halter broke and is now hangin’ with the big boys. He needs training and a home that will work with him to provide good structure and teach him proper ground manners.
Silverado is a handsome and mature gelding. He is quite energetic for his age. He is easy to be around and has quite a presence. Are you looking for a companion and an equine to love and care for?
This pretty Thoroughbred is looking for her forever home. She’s friendly and comes off a bit stand offish at first. Give her time. She will quickly warm up to you. Small Dream is herd bound, but that will change as soon as you come and make her part of your family. Come ready to get an up close and personal hello from Small Dream. She’s rideable, but she’ll need a refresher since she hasn’t been under saddle in quite some time.
Splash is pasture mates with our baby Draft, Cappuccino. He’s a good “big brother,” and they can be seen playing together and walking their paddock alongside each other. Splash will need a patient and gentle hand for training. He needs to trust you and feel that he can be with you without strict expectations.
With some increased human contact and special feed twice a day, Splash is starting to come around. He approaches you and comes to the fence. He’s still skittish, but he’s moving in the right direction. Imagine what kind of experience he had with humans before he was left at auction?
July 2021: This scared pony has a lot of energy, but he’s scared and needs a gentle and patient hand. He is not easy to catch and he’s a runner and a jumper! He definitely needs time to rehab and for us to evaluate the best forever home.
Starlight is quiet and gentle. He is looking for a home where he can live out his days with lots of hugs and kisses. If you’re looking for a pasture mate for your equine and a horse you can take walks with, Starlight is your horse.
We are really pleased with how Sunrise has settled. This pretty girl needs her person. We don’t know a lot about her past, but we do know she’s quiet and sweet. Her riding ability is unknown at this time. Come meet her and see if she’s a match for you.
Are you looking for a potential lifetime companion? A horse you can grow to know and love instantly?
May 2022
This mare is newly arrived and settling in just fine. She is doing well with her mixed herd of geldings and donkeys. Sweetie is kind and quiet and has really warmed up to her human caregivers.
Tanka Rae is a sweet, gentle, mature lady. She is quiet and calm and looking for a home where she can live out her senior years. She’s shy at first, but if you wait for her, she will come to you. She was definitely worked hard in her life prior to arriving at 13 Hands. No more work for this girl…rest, relaxation, love, and care…that’s her job.
Zaynah is a beautiful Arabian mare. She gave birth to Shiloh on 12/12/18, who is now a thriving yearling with a lot of spunk.
Zaynah’s tale is one of incredible perseverance. After being rescued in an emaciated state, dumped at auction and with a terrible eye injury, she is now loving life outdoors 24/7 with her equine pasture mates. Zaynah was tagged at auction and her note read “old mare – rides nice.”
Zaynah is doing well and enjoying her life as a horse, surrounded by lots of care and love. She would make a wonderful pasture pal for a loving home.
After having her foal, Strawberry Moon, in June 2021, Darla was a doting mom and wonderful with visitors who wanted to get a closer look at her little filly. Since then, Darla has been working on gaining weight and improving her overall health. Darla is looking for a home with a lot of love to give. She is a wonderful walking companion.
Silver is a handsome Cremello with blue eyes. He’s stocky and strong. He and Tid Bit are best friends and will be adopted as a pair.
Silver can spook easily, so we’ve been working on desensitizing him. More groundwork is needed to instruct him on walking beside you. He has improved with his commands to move forward and to stop.
Abby is a quiet mule and is quite skittish. She needs a soft touch and a lot of love; someone who is patient and willing to take on a project. Farrier visits are challenging.
If you are ready for a lifetime of love, giving Abby a chance to trust will turn her into a best friend. The love of a mule or donkey is special.
Timid and curious, this boy needs more handling. If you want to give your time and devotion to an animal that will bond with you in a special way, then Bailey could be your next family member.
Benjamin is a curious mule with the most unique braying sound. He doesn’t bray on cue…yet!
He has come around since he first arrived. He loves to pal around with his pasture mates and is particularly fond of the ladies.
Honeysuckle is a dark beauty. This mare is looking to share a home with her human family. She needs groundwork and handling since she has become a bit of a challenge to get close to since she joined the large herd.
May 2022
When Sprite first arrived we thought it would take some time for her to come close to us. She was hard to catch…we were told. That changed quickly. She is cautious and curious, so at first she may ignore you and play hard to get. Give her some time. Spend time in her space. Let her come to you. Patience is the key. Sprite is young and energetic and is unhandled. She will need training.
This beautiful sorrel with her flaxen mane and tail has really come around since she first arrived in early July 2021. Talula definitely wants human contact, but you need to give her time to approach you. She’s curious and quite spirited.
This mini palomino gelding has made strides since arriving at 13 Hands. He was quite scared and difficult to get close to. Over time, he has allowed us to get closer. Tid Bit has a best friend, Silver, so their adoption will be as a pair.
Tid Bit needs more groundwork which will also help him bond with his forever person or family. He is learning to respond to commands to move forward and to stop while leading.
Tid Bit has an injury to his right which has impaired his vision.
May 2022
We are getting to know Angel and what we know is…WE ARE ALREADY IN LOVE! He loves to be groomed. He will stand for you without needing to be tied. He’s a LOVE, and when you hang out with him, you don’t want to walk away. Angel is quite thin and is getting extra nutritional support so he can bulk up and get stronger. You should come meet Angel! You won’t be disappointed. His riding ability has not been determined at this time.
He’s smart and leads well. Blaze is ready for a more experienced rider. He needs a refresher with ground work and time under saddle. He has good ground manners and a lot of energy.
May 2022
Coach is a new arrival and we are getting to know him. He’s on the road to putting on weight and adjusting to his life feeling safe and cared for. Stay tuned for updates, as Coach works on himself; with a little help from his new family at 13 Hands.
This handsome Chestnut gelding is good to go. He is rideable for a more experienced rider.
January 2022: Gracie has been adopted and will remain at 13 Hands with her companion, Leo.
Visitors who know her are thrilled that they can still spend time with her when they visit. She is so friendly and kind to visitors. It’s sweet how she is always ready to say hello. If you’re around for afternoon hay time, her braying can be heard from wherever you are.
UPDATE!!! Since September, Gracie has found herself a donkey match and is happy eating and roaming with her buddy.
When Gracie first arrived, she seemed so sad and the light was gone from her eyes. After a short time, we already see positive changes. We now hear her braying, and she is more alert and curious about her human caregivers. She will even take a carrot or a piece of an apple as a treat. There is a bright future ahead for Gracie, and we can’t wait to see her in her forever home.
Hellouise has found her forever home here at 13 Hands.
She is no longer rideable but is an active and gentle participant with our therapy encounters. She does well with all ages. Children love her and the adults are in awe of her beauty and gentle nature.
…that’s what you could say about Jett. He’s intimidating from a distance and when you get up close, you’re not sure what to expect. He’s definitely a big boy. Jett is one of the largest horses we’ve ever had. He’s very sweet, quiet and gentle too!
We love him!!
Jett was tried at a trot and canter and he may have some issues with his hind legs. He needs further evaluation by a veterinarian to determine soundness.
Newly arrived, Jolie is believed to be a Poitou Donkey from the Poitou region of France. She is unique with her shaggy hair and large ears. Jolie is very sweet and a lot of fun to be around. She loves the company of her human handlers as well as her pasture mates, the miniature horses.
Leo is quite the likeable donkey.
He captures everyone’s heart and loves to be doted on. Groom him. Talk to him. Scratch his head. He’s ready for anything and quite patient too. How this sweet donkey ended up in auction, we will never understand. We are the lucky ones to be able to love him and nurture him and just be in his sweet presence.
lil Duke is our smallest equine. He is a dwarf miniature horse and the cutest horse you’ll ever see. His tiny size makes everyone want a closer look. lil Duke is usually ready for a close encounter with visitors, so no worries if you think you can’t steal a moment with him.
Midnight was bought at auction. When he came to 13 Hands he was skittish and unsure of his surroundings. Now he is one of the sweetest horses at 13 Hands. Ready to ride – walk, trot, canter. Will do best with an intermediate to experienced rider. He may have a future as a show horse or trail horse. He’s exceptional!
Neko is a young, energetic, and friendly gelding. He loves human interaction and is always ready for some human contact. He is doing well with his training and is getting ready for his work with the Veterans in their therapy horse encounters.
He’s curious and always ready to greet visitors in his paddock. He’s quite the boss among the herd for such a young one, but can be seen often running and horsin’ around with all his miniature mates.
Registered Shetland Pony born May 2017.
What an extremely special little lady! Star will capture your heart, and it’s always love at first sight. Visitors want to take her home and most who come for another visit always want to spend some time with Star.
This adorable gelding is ready for his forever home. He is curious and friendly and needs more handling. He greets you when you enter his space, but he’s careful too. He and his bestie, Mandolin, will be adopted together. They are bonded and will not be separated.
Brando is a young miniature who’s looking for his forever home. He’s tiny and spunky. Brando still requires some handling to increase his trust of humans. He’s still a bit skittish when you’re in his personal space but quick to greet you if you approach him opposite the fence.
Frida is a sweet standard donkey who is coming out of her shell. She was extremely timid when she arrived, and now she welcomes your arrival into her personal space. She and Hannah are a pair that will be adopted together. Once you gain their trust, they will follow you around urging you for more attention and scratches on the head.
Hannah is part of a duo with her companion Frida. They are two sweet standard donkeys who need a forever home together. They are more approachable since their arrival several months ago, and it warms our hearts to see their transformation. No longer so timid, now they will greet you in the paddock. You can still sense some caution on their part, especially Frida.
Come visit and see what we all happily experience when we visit with them.
This sweet horse is loved by everyone who meets him. Harry is a beautiful gelding looking for his person for the next phase of his life. He’s retired from competing, and he’s looking for a new path in life. He would make a terrific therapy horse and may be able to do some light riding.
I’m a spirited miniature looking for my forever home. My best friend is Brando. I would love it if we can be adopted together. We’ve been through a lot this year and it would make us very happy if we lived together forever. I’m really fuzzy in the winter and silky smooth when I lose my winter coat.
Newly arrived and already catching the eye of visitors and staff. These two small Standard size donkeys are a bonded pair. Adoption will will be for both to the same home. We don’t know a lot about them yet, but we do know they are curious.
This sweet mare is timid and cautious. She is not easy to handle and difficult to catch. She’s bonded with her gelding mate, Banjo, so their adoption will be completed as a pair. We are handling Mandolin so she is used to people. She will require more human interaction to gain her trust.
Murphy is a quiet draft horse with a presence. We can tell he’s been worked too hard, and he needs a forever home that will love on him and give him pasture to graze and be a horse. He needs more time to gain some weight so he can be his best self.
Cute as a button! He takes a bit to warm up to you, but he’s a friendly guy. Nicolas is looking for a home where he and his gal pal, Trixie, can frolic and graze together. The two minis will be adopted together. Won’t you give them a forever home? Call us for a visit.

If you would like to add to your family and are interested in this darling duo, call us for a visit and take some time to get to know them.
Northern Star has joined a herd of diverse mares after six months at 13 Hands. She and her pal CoCo Chanel, who arrived together, now run among a herd finding their way into new friendship circles. Northern Star is friendly and more approachable than her first days with us. She is quite stunning to watch her move. While she is sound, Northern Star has never been ridden during her time at 13 Hands. She will require groundwork training so she can gain your trust and be ready to ride. She is spirited, so she will need an experienced rider who is patient and wants the joy of building a special bond.

This black beauty is kind and loving. Tivio is waiting for a home where he can spend his days grazing with equine companions and hang around with his human partners. He is not requiring any special feed or have any medical needs. Call to set up a visit and meet this handsome boy.
Friendly and curious, this little paint mare is looking for her forever home. She and her companion, Nicholas, will be adopted together.
Come visit and meet them.
Tomas has a darker shoulder stripe with more white around the eyes. Tucker’s markings are lighter and less shading around the eyes.
They are both sweet and pal around all the time. They get along well with their equine companions, but they definitely prefer the company of each other. They are inseparable! They both need more human contact since they are a bit nervous. They lead fairly well but will need more groundwork to get them more comfortable. If they don’t want to walk, they will stand firm until they are ready to walk on.
These mares are always together as they graze and move around the paddock. They will be adopted together. They are quite bonded and gentle with their human caregivers.
Wendy, 12 years old
Cornelia, 13 years old
This stocky and adorable guy is Ace. He is so friendly and loves to greet you in the paddock. Ace would make a wonderful companion for horse or human. He’s easy to handle and loves human contact.
Watching her grow and change this past year has been an incredible experience. Those who know her since her birth are thrilled to see the changes she has gone through these last 12 months. She is strong and beautiful and loving life with her pasture mate, Esmerelda. Aria has loved human contact since the minute she took her first breath. What an opportunity to show her kindness and the human connection from the very beginning. For a young impressionable life to know love and care from the very start is precious.
Our little Aria was born on April 16, 2020 to our beautiful mare, Meredith. Since the moment she was born, all eyes were on her. She was quick. She was curious. She was affectionate. She was everything a newborn could be…and of course ADORABLE! Aria has had human contact since the day she was born and anyone who has had the good fortune to spend time with her can see it. She loves to be around people (like mother, like daughter), and she would love on you all day if you let her. She can be seen frolicking in the paddock with her pasture mate Bradley Cooper, who is only four days younger than her.
This adorable gelding is as cute as they come. A bit feisty when he first arrived, he sure has calmed down and settled in nicely. Boots is looking for a home with other mini companions, so come meet him and take him and a friend home.
Butch Cassidy is a friendly gelding who enjoys to hang with his pasture mates. He’s sweet and waiting for his new family to scoop him up. He cannot be ridden, but he would be a wonderful companion to his human or an equine or two.
Charlie is a Draft Mule who’s quiet and gentle. He minds his own business among the herd and is curious about his human visitors. He would make a wonderful companion.
Cheyenne is a sweet mare. She’s always ready to greet you in the paddock.
Cheyenne needs more groundwork and we are still evaluating her. She may need massage and body work to tease out her uneasiness when under saddle. With patience and time, she will make someone a terrific horse.

This special mule is a sweetheart. He’s energetic and friendly and he’s waiting for his human family. Clyde enjoys hanging around with his pasture mates. He runs and plays with them and keeps up with his bigger companions. Clyde knows how to stand up for himself, and his braying to say hello or to get your attention is quite endearing.
What a spunky little guy! Dakota is quite vocal and energetic. He was recently gelded, so his liveliness is quite apparent. He’s a cutie and quite the character. Dakota needs groundwork and handling, so if you’re ready for some hands on work and a little one to love, this nugget is waiting.
What a LOVE! She will follow you around like a puppy. Dixie loves human contact and gets along with her little herd of mares. Dixie is a green horse and needs someone who will work with her and bring out her full potential.
Dream is an adorable miniature horse. More handling is needed so she can gain trust from her human friends. Come meet her and see if she is the mini that will steal your heart.
A handsome and approachable gelding is what you can say about Duke. He’s also wonderful with children and all his human handlers. He’s a fantastic pasture mate as well.
What a precious little mini! He’s quiet and sweet and oh so adorable. Fritz likes to be groomed and is a great companion to other minis. He was recently gelded and is doing well.
This unique miniature loves to be around people. She is pals with Talula, and it would be wonderful if they found a home together. Gala is easy to approach and easy to catch. Come meet her and see if you make a connection.
Gambler is a sweet senior who is enjoying the tranquility among his small herd. Gambler loves to be hand grazed and go for walks. He is great on a lead and walks nicely with his handlers. He would be a fantastic addition for a family wanting to share their life with an older horse who just wants to be cared for. Gambler is great trail horse for someone looking for an older equine.
Granny is a pretty old soul who still has the energy to break into a canter every once in a while. She roams freely during the day to graze and minds her own business. At the end of the day, she makes her way back to the barn to her stall where her special dinner is waiting for her.
Harvey is a one-person horse. He is ready to ride, but he needs a home with one faithful rider. He is so approachable that he is at ease and approaches you as you enter his paddock. Harvey has experience as a lesson barn horse, but he has made it clear that he is retiring and moving on for a life of leisure and lots of TLC from his person.
Hope is a friendly mare who has settled quite nicely since her arrival. She is rideable and ready for her forever home. Come meet her and make a connection.
This beauty is doing well in a herd of geldings and mares. Isabella is interested in visitors but not quite confident in getting too close. She needs more time to trust, but her forever home is waiting. Are you that special home that will welcome her and love her?
This beautiful gelding is gentle around his human handlers. He is great around children too! Irish does well on cross ties and stands for the farrier. He loves being groomed. Irish is easy to make friends when introduced to a new herd. We love this boy for his gentle and sweet disposition.
Jasper is a gentle and quiet gelding. He is a bit timid when you first approach him, so patience and time is needed to get close to this boy. He is getting extra care with his diet to get him back to his best self.
This striking Paint is a sweetheart. Jupiter does well on cross-ties and stands for the farrier. Further evaluation reveals that Jupiter is sound, but behaves like a green horse. He will walk and trot, and we are working on the canter. More training is definitely needed, but perhaps Jupiter wants to live the rest of his days as a companion horse; a home who wants to love on him and he will love you back. He has become quite fond of human contact.
What an impression this lady makes!! She’s quite a presence and the ground thunders when she runs. Lacy is sound but needs groundwork training and time under saddle if she will be ridden. She’s pretty easy to approach and a bit skittish with sudden movements. Lacy enjoys the companionship of her pasture mates; both mares and geldings.
Larry is ready for his forever home. He’s a bit shy and needs some coaxing to catch, but once he’s with you, he’s quiet and sweet. Larry gets along well with his pasture mates and would be a great addition to any family.
firecracker and curious…two adjectives to describe this little girl. She’s spunky and quick and can get into a chase with any pasture pal who’s ready for a run.
Lilah is a quiet mare and part of an adorable miniature herd. She roams freely during the day with her little crew and grazes among the chickens, dogs, cats, and humans.
Lindora has taken the last 6 months to feel what it’s like to be a horse that’s free to move about; no job and no pressure to perform. Her rehabilitation is ready for the next phase…a new home with her forever family.
After being worked too hard over the years, she was bound for slaughter. This weak and scared mare is working towards her best self. Lindora’s body condition has improved significantly, and she is definitely not the same horse that arrived in January 2021. Lindora continues to love the companionship of her paddock mates.
Meredith has joined a large herd of mares here at the rescue. She adjusted well after separating from her daughter, Aria. She gets along well with her pasture mates. She remains extremely receptive to human contact and is easy to approach. There’s no trouble putting a halter on her and walking her out of her paddock.
Meredith doesn’t like to be on cross ties and she doesn’t like sprays of any kind (fly spray or mane detangler). Be ready for her to pull away and want no part of it. I guess a little more work with this exposure is needed. Meredith is young and needs some training. She is rideable and with some more groundwork, she will be ready to go.
This spunky mare will take all of your attention and push her equine pals away if she knows she doesn’t have your undivided attention. She can hold her own among other minis or ponies. Mabel has a strong personality, and groundwork with her new person or people will help her to settle. Safe to say, she doesn’t like to share human attention. LOL!
Mo is a sweet boy and asks that you give him a permanent home. He’s slightly timid and needs more handling to trust you, but he’s kind and is waiting for you to scoop him up for your own.
This stunningly beautiful Standardbred is a quiet sole. She is ready for a home where she can be a pasture mate and be loved by her human companions.
What a handsome little gelding. He’s small in size but big in personality. Oliver has so much energy for an older mini.
We are currently addressing his farrier needs. The neglect of his hoof care has left Oliver with twisted hooves. Despite his hoof issues, he moves around like a trooper and can be seen resting when he needs to get off his feet. He’s a beautiful gelding with a happy spirit, and he can be yours if you’re ready.
This beautiful mare is Peekaboo. She’s a stunning dark bay Thoroughbred with a sweet personality. When you approach the paddock, it doesn’t take much for her to come trotting towards you. She is curious and doesn’t shy away from getting close to humans. Peekaboo arrived recently, so we’re still getting to know her.
Primo is a 4 year old Thoroughbred. He came to us after a racing injury, and he’s ready for the rest of his life to begin. He won’t be a jumper, but Primo could be a dressage horse or a pleasure riding horse. He has a lot of energy and is settling in with more comfort. Primo does not appear as anxious as when he first arrived. He’s enjoying his horse life outdoors with his new pasture mates. Come meet him and see what he’s all about.
This super friendly pony is ready for his new home. He is playful with his pasture mates and is a stunner as he moves.
Everyone needs a donkey or two! Meet Ringo and Buckwheat. They are a bonded pair of Standard donkeys looking for a home together. Buckwheat is more likely to greet you first. Ringo needs a while to warm up to visitors in his personal space. Both geldings are curious and the more time you spend in their paddock, the greater your chances of having a close encounter. They are both very protective and have no problem chasing away a cat or a dog. No doubt they would make a great addition to any home needing a “watch dog” for their farm animals.
UPDATE: AUGUST 27, 2021
Many thanks to all our volunteers who have put time into socializing River. People have sat with her, talked to her and just hung out with her and her pasture mates. River is becoming more comfortable around people. She easily approaches when you enter, but she’s still cautious when you move towards her. She has made a lot of progress, so we’re moving in the right direction.
River is extremely timid. She requires more groundwork and time to be handled. River demonstrates curiosity when you enter the paddock, but she is quick to turn away and run off. We will continue to work on her exposure to handling as part of her daily rehab. We don’t know anything about her life before rescuing her from the auction. It’s clear that she is untrusting. She may not have had a lot of human interaction, or she wasn’t treated kindly. If you want to give love and extra attention to this little one, come meet her.
Scarlet is quite beautiful when she moves. She is waiting for the right home where trust and patience are a priority. She’s a bit challenging to catch, but she can be persuaded with some treats if you have the time to wait and work with her. Scarlet leads well and is sound. Come for a visit and see if you want to make her a part of the family.
This little beauty is a registered American Shetland Pony. She is adorable and quite friendly once she warms up to you! Scout does well walking on a lead rope. She’s perfect for a young rider who wants to build a bond with a new equine friend.
This beautiful stocky boy is a sweetheart. He is beautiful under saddle, as we just found out! He likes human contact and does well being led on a halter and lead rope. Come visit and see for yourself. Call for an appointment.
This miniature donkey duo are a bonded pair and the cutest munchkins you’ve ever seen.
They’re so quiet that you forget they’re there. Approach them slowly and quietly and they may hang around to greet you. As little as they are, they hold their own with the bigger minis and donkeys they live with. They graze together and move around together like two peas in a pod. We’re working on getting them used to people in their space.
The eternal smile on this little one is so endearing! She is immediately noticed by visitors, and she is always peeking through the fence to see what’s happening and who’s coming by. She seems difficult to approach at first, but give her a few minutes and she’ll be good to go. Smiley gets along with her miniature mates and her friend Gracie, the donkey.
Snickers is a quiet and friendly pony. He gets along well with his pasture buddies. He will easily approach visitors, but you have to move slowly to get him to trust you. He leads quite nicely.
It is unknown if he has ever been ridden; however, he is sound and looking for someone to give him a chance. He is an excellent candidate for someone looking for a project horse.
Tango is a handsome Morgan who is done working for a living. He is ready to find a home where he can be a horse and be loved by someone who will show him gentle care. He needs more time to trust people and get used to horse life. If you have the time and patience to nurture this boy back to his best emotional and physical self, he’s waiting for you.
Quiet and gentle, this gelding is still be assessed for his ability. He’s a friendly horse and does not show any aggression towards his pasture mates. Teddy is getting some extra nutritional support to help him get to his best.
This little spit fire can hold her own against bigger pasture mates. Tess is very social and spirited. She’s curious and friendly too!
Livvy is a a beautiful black and white mini. She enjoys being part of our “little” herd of minis.
Lovey, a mare, is Max’s mom. Max, a gelding, is a black and white pinto dwarf mini. He’s a spunky little guy when he’s seen hanging around with his equine pals. They are a pair and will be adopted together.
If you’re looking to give a home to two adorable and affectionate minis, then this is the duo for you. They make the cutest sounds! They are easy keepers and quiet. Come meet them and you get to experience their quiet nature and loving personalities…cute as can be!
A beautiful mare with a personality to match. She is so sweet and approachable. Savannah is usually one of the first horses to greet you in her paddock. She’s young and needs some training. Someone will be very lucky to have her and get her to a place where a true bonding experience can happen…she’s quite special. Spend time with her and you will see.
These horses either have an injury or reason that they are not currently adoptable.
Mac remains a permanent resident at 13 Hands. He is doted on daily with special care for his leg. He enjoys his banana treat and grazes freely around the farm.
He is as majestic as always and grabs the attention of ALL who meet him. The love we have for this boy is endless.
Big Mac certainly lives up to his name with his larger than life personality. He likes to be the center of attention and doted upon with love and affection. Mac is a gaited, green broke horse on the flat at walk, trot, and canter. He greets everyone who comes to the farm. He’s got a great personality and disposition.
Kit Kat is a young and energetic gelding. He is best as COMPANION ONLY. Kit Kat would require a couple of years of training if he were to be ridden, and he also spooks with no obvious triggers. He can be difficult to catch when he’s in a herd. Applying fly spray can be a challenge.
Beautiful buckskin gelding, Sundance Kid is enjoying life at the farm as a PERMANENT RESIDENT.
