Marylou founded 13 Hands Equine Rescue in 2015, driven by a commitment to animal welfare and a deep affinity for horses. Under her leadership, the organization has rescued more than 1,000 horses, facilitated 100’s of successful adoptions, and developed unique programs for the community. In addition to her work with 13 Hands, Marylou is the founder and owner of a thriving and highly regarded bookkeeping business that has been in operation for 35 years; bringing strong financial discipline and operational insight to the organization.Board Member
Dr. Glenn Albright is a clinical psychologist who earned his PhD from the City University of New York, specializing in Experimental Cognition and Applied Psychophysiology. He is a professor at Baruch College, where he brings extensive academic and clinical expertise to his work. Glenn contributes a strong foundation in behavioral science and research-informed decision-making to the board.Board Member
Kim Zimmerman is a retired Special Education teacher from Westchester County who has spent her career caring deeply about children with special needs. She is strongly committed to the mission of 13 Hands Equine Rescue and is especially passionate about its work with veterans and children with special needs. Kim believes in the powerful role rescued horses can play in healing, building confidence, and creating meaningful connections, and she brings that heart-centered commitment to her service on the Board.Honorary Board Member
David Tortorello is a senior leader at a global professional services firm, where he serves as Segment Leader for Disputes, Forensics, and Legal Technology. He brings deep expertise in complex investigations, risk management, and technology-enabled services, offering valuable strategic perspective to the organization in an honorary advisory capacity.Board Member
Charles Cohen brings 60 years of equine experience and a successful entrepreneurial background to the organization. A steadfast supporter since 2018, Charles leverages his professional drive and creative problem-solving to foster dynamic partnerships and collaborative growth. His dedication to the rescue is truly holistic; he is as committed to the physical vitality of the farm—frequently found exercising horses and maintaining infrastructure—as he is to the organization’s long-term stability. Through his blend of strategic vision and hands-on dedication, he plays a vital role in advancing the mission of 13 Hands for both the animals and the community.
