Douglas (aka “Dougie”) was rescued by 13 Hands from an auction house in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. A former Amish cart horse, he is a 14 year old black and white Paint, Quarter Horse gelding. He is approximately 14.2 Hands with a solid build, nice conformation and a mesmerizing right blue eye. Also known as “The Mayor” of 13 Hands, in part due to his stall location when entering the barn, but mostly because he always has a nicker to greet all who pass by him. While still green, Dougie is currently learning basic ground work, with an emphasis on a trust-based partnership based upon his amazing experience at an Anna Twinney Clinic. He is being ridden under saddle as well (walk/trot/canter/ground poles). He lounges nicely and would make an amazing horse for someone looking for a project as he is he is ready and MORE than willing to do what you ask and is not phased by much. We put a blue tarp on top of him and he barely blinked. Walked him over it and he acted like it wasn’t there. This is a horse that would truly thrive from having his own person. A volunteer favorite, he is loaded with personality and is waiting for someone to give him a chance.
