Volunteer

VOLUNTEER WITH US!

Who may volunteer?

We are interested in all who are willing to give their time in exchange for a rewarding and fun experience. Minors must be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian.

How do I become a volunteer?

First you will need to complete a volunteer registration application packet. After completing the forms contained in the application packet please email the completed forms to 13 Hands Equine Rescue, Inc. Once one of our volunteer coordinators have reviewed your application they will contact you to schedule an orientation at the farm. We ask that no one comes to the farm without a prior scheduled appointment.

After attending a volunteer training session, you may schedule to volunteer on a weekly basis.

I have horse experience. Do I need to attend an orientation training session?

Yes, everyone, regardless of experience must attend an orientation training session. This way you will be given a chance to ask any questions you might have, receive a full tour of our facility, meet our horses and learn about the day to day chores of the farm.

Do I need previous horse experience?

No, you don’t need horse experience to volunteer here. Basic training is provided in our orientation training sessions.

What is covered in the volunteer training orientation sessions?

  • History of 13 Hands Equine Rescue, Inc.
  • Volunteer policies and procedures
  • Actual horse handling, to include: proper grooming, leading of a horse, blanketing, paddock turnout, etc.
  • MANY non-farm volunteer opportunities are available as well.

When do you need volunteers?

Our needs are year round. We are open Monday through Sunday. The earliest time we need volunteers is 8:00 a.m. and the latest is early evening (around 4:00 p.m.). When completing the volunteer application packet, please be as specific as you can about your availability.

What is the commitment to volunteer?

We do not ask that you commit to a certain day(s) and/or time(s) every week. Are you an adult with a rotating work schedule? Click through to our SignUpGenius at the bottom of the page to see our Volunteer Schedule and sign up for days and times that fit your schedule. *Please note that all NEW volunteers must schedule their first visit with one of our volunteer coordinators.
When signing up to volunteer we offer 2 hour time slots (please use the “Comments” section to let us know if you plan on staying longer – rather than signing up in multiple slots).

Why volunteer?

Aside from being fun, volunteering provides the opportunity to receive rewarding personal experiences, fulfill community service requirements, learn new things, engage in good exercise and even develop lifelong friendships.

What other volunteer opportunities are there at 13 Hands?
