“Mikey, a 5-year old, paint gelding is a Shetland Pony rescued by 13 Hands from an auction house in Bastrop, TX – where he was one step away from being bought up by a kill buyer. He was shoved in a lot with 5 miniature horses, all of whom were absolutely emancipated and frightened beyond what we have ever encountered. After arriving to us, all huddled together, Mikey was the first to take a step towards us – humans, who he had no reason to trust, but somehow knew we were here to help him. He got braver and braver with each passing day and seemed to be able to rise above the horrific experience of abandonment, neglect and all of the other abused these horses are forced to suffer when dumped for money at an auction house. It became clear to us that this had once been someone’s (beloved) pony. Mikey craves human contact and is extremely well mannered. Despite his “love me” personality and GORGEOUS conformation he sadly lost his home, and we will never know why, but almost ended up another tragic victim of the slaughter pipeline. Mikey is a great turnout buddy and would make a wonderful pasture pal to any horse – large or small. Please think about offering Mikey his “forever home.”
